Senior Business Intelligence Developer

Leads smaller scale projects that involves the design, analysis and builds moderately complex business intelligence reports, dashboards for a business area. Supports the active management of a business area by interpreting data, visualizations and providing business insights.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leads smaller scale projects designing high quality, visually appealing dashboards while ensuring data accuracy, technical efficiency and performance.
  • Expertise in innovatively leveraging visualization software to create and tell business stories at a glance while handling large data sets.
  • Uses technical expertise to provide business insights and recommendations to support business improvements. Reports findings to Senior Management. Conducts reviews and provides technical guidance to junior members.
  • Interprets data and identifies relevant analyses; Monitors trends over time and provides actionable insights to determine actionable outcomes on a business area. Makes recommendations using technical experience, judgment, and precedents.
  • Partners with the business on dashboard design and documentation of requirements through wireframes.
  • Acts as a technical resource and regularly identifies opportunities to leverage new data solutions in support of analytics and reporting objectives.
  • Works independently, receiving minimal guidance; acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience by providing instruction, guidance, and advice.
  • May actively partner with other analytical teams (external, internal) across the organization and/or participate in special projects.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. Drives the evolution of CNA application development processes and standards.
  • Responds to and fulfills adhoc data requests.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of relational database concepts, advanced SQL, ETL/ELT, star schema, data modeling, data storage/warehousing, big data and cloud data.
  • Strong business intelligence (BI) reporting design and development skills, ensuring accuracy and consistent look and feel of BI deliverables. Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem solving skills. Demonstrates attention to detail.
  • Solid knowledge of core functions of an insurance company, general insurance and statistical, financial, and economic concepts, which may include a specialty area of the business
  • Solid knowledge of BI tools such as Qlikview, Power BI, Tableau, Looker, ThoughtSpot and other business-related software.
  • Proficient in Python or advanced SQL in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Effectively interacts with all levels of CNA’s internal and external business partners.
  • Solid analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills to effectively resolve complex situations and issues.
  • Solid project management, organization and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively and lead teams.
  • Ability to solve issues with a sense of urgency; utilizes and manages the available resources to make informed decisions and achieve superior results.
  • Ability to creatively and effectively manage through ambiguous and challenging problems, leads through change and takes appropriate level of risk.
  • Preferred experience in building data analytics solutions using Google Cloud Platform services such as Google BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, DataProc, Pub/Sub, Cloud Composer, or DataPrep. AWS, including, Amazon Redshift, Postgres, Elastic MapReduce a plus.

Reporting Relationship

  • Typically Director or above.

Education & Experience

1.  Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Mathematics, Finance, Statistics, Information Technology, Computer Science or related field.
2.  Typically a minimum of seven years of related work experience.
