Product Designer

    San Francisco, CA

Full Time

The Role

imgix is looking for a Product Designer to join our small, but fast-growing Design team. In this role, you will work closely with other members of the Design, Product, and Front-end teams to help shape, craft, and enhance the user experience across all imgix products. Our products help users manage their account and visual media, including sign-up, onboarding, service configuration, search, billing, analytics, and even image editing and manipulation.

At imgix, good design is at the core of what we do and how we present ourselves to the world. The imgix design team strives to uphold principles of good design and usability in our products and for our users. We seek designers who are excellent communicators with strong user experience and visual design skills, interested in making a meaningful impact within our growing design team.

About You:

  • Thoughtfulness and objectivity when presenting designs or providing critique, and doing so with empathy, confidence, and clarity.
  • You have a design portfolio that demonstrates strong user experience and visual design skills, a variety of projects that cover everything from user research through high-fidelity wireframes, and, above all else, clearly communicated process breakdowns.
  • You excel at defining problems from a user’s perspective, and perspectives that differ from your own, while always considering edge cases and never letting accessibility become a secondary concern.
  • Experience working within a product-focused environment with both product and engineering teams, and a desire to work on projects that are customer-facing or internal in focus.
  • You have a high level of accountability in your work and are eager to play a part in taking ownership over imgix products.
  • At least 2-5 years of industry experience as a Product Designer, with a focus or specialization in user experience design.
  • You have a solid grasp of visual design principles, but those who are cross-trained in visual design and are willing to contribute their abilities in that area are especially desirable.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the design process.
  • Skilled with prototyping tools (Framer, Principle, etc), but not afraid to bust out the sketchbook or whiteboard.
  • Proficient with modern design tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe Suite, Etc). Experience with Figma is preferred.
  • Experience or desire to work with a small design team in a start-up environment.
  • Comfortable conducting and running user-testing with prototypes that range from low-fidelity to pixel-perfect visual comps.

About the role:

  • Collaborate with other designers, and the Product and Engineering teams in order to identify and solve challenging UX problems through user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and visual design.
  • Design fully responsive web-based products with feature sets of product dashboards, asset management and search, image editing and manipulation, and more.
  • Expect variable project size and scope. Responsibilities may ebb and flow between long-term projects with broad sets of objectives, and shorter projects focused more on specific improvements.
  • Design early product concepts alongside the product team to quickly test concepts with existing and potential imgix users.
  • Design early product concepts alongside the product team to quickly test concepts with existing and potential imgix users.
  • Participate in design reviews and critiques, developer handoffs, and project planning involving multiple teams within imgix.
  • Produce exceptional, presentable project documentation that supplements your design efforts.
  • While this role will lean towards the user experience aspect of product design, opportunities to assist with visual design work will occur.
  • Expect that remote work will occur, but members of the imgix design team should be based close enough to our San Francisco office to work in person with team members around 1-2 days a week.

We are located in downtown San Francisco, close to BART, Caltrain, and a really good sandwich place. Employee benefits are comprehensive (401k, medical, dental and vision), perks are generous (catered lunches, paid rides home, the occasional team outing), vacation time is flexible, parental leave is available and highly encouraged, and salaries are commensurate with experience. We also provide employees with anything they (reasonably) need to be effective in their work: funky keyboards, standing desks, a desk cactus, and maybe even a laptop. The troposphere is the limit.

If you’d like to help us build the future of image serving on the Internet, submit your resume for consideration. We look forward to hearing from you!
