This person will work closely with business partners internal and external to the Data Science org, product managers, engineers, and our infrastructure teams to create tools that fill data ecosystem gaps, leverage automation, and ultimately enable both producers and consumers of data insight to work smarter. A successful candidate will be both technically strong and business savvy, with a passion for making an impact. This position is full-time and based in our Bay Area offices.


  • You will manage the performance and career development of a small team of engineers within the Data Science org, and own significant parts of LinkedIn products that require design, architecture, and coding.
  • You will act as a champion for a data-driven engineering culture, evangelizing best practices both within LinkedIn and among the local and global data science community.
  • You will partner with cross-functional teams to lead or contribute to large scale strategic projects as well as ongoing operational activities.
  • You will drive meetings and lead discussions. Craft compelling solutions and make logical recommendations.
  • You will prioritize projects across the team and allocate resources to meet business and team goals.
  • You will guide architectures, data models, and engineering best practices.
  • You will form a team vision and strategy.
  • You will be a role model and professional coach for engineers with a strong bias for action and focus on craftsmanship.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent technical experience.
  • 8+ years of industry experience.
  • 2+ years experience in managing Data Science teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience.
  • MS or PhD in Computer Science or related technical discipline.
  • Excellent communications skills, with the ability to synthesize, simplify and explain complex problems to different audiences.
  • Experience hiring, mentoring, coaching and developing top engineering talent.
  • Successful track record of managing small teams of engineers and project management skills.
  • Expert knowledge of computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design.
  • Experience with object oriented design, coding, testing patterns, and programming languages (Java, C++, C#, etc.).
  • Proven coding skills in Python or JavaScript/AJAX, database design and SQL, and/or knowledge of TCP/IP and network programming.
  • Experience building web applications and services with IDEs, ant, junit, etc.
  • Experience with relational databases (transactional and non-transactional), database architecture, and distributed transaction management.
