Job Description
Nordstrom’s Infrastructure & Security Services organization is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead our Computing Services Team. This team is engineering the next generation of computing services supporting Nordstrom’s catalog of applications. The Computing Services Team works to empower engineering teams in meeting their objectives through providing highly available, scalable, manageable infrastructure governed by an established set of compliance and security guidelines. The primary charter of this team is to help increase velocity of our engineering teams by applying agile, frictionless and platform mindsets.
We are looking for a leader who makes data-driven decisions and is passionate about maintaining an inclusive culture aligning with Nordstrom Core Values. You will support and grow talented engineers, set the pace of execution, define standards for operational excellence, drive alignment of priorities among other managers and teams, and maintain focus on defining Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) at departmental, organizational and corporate levels.
A day in the life…
- Supporting a team of infrastructure engineers whose charter is providing on-premise and cloud-based computing services

You own this if you have
- Demonstrated track record managing engineering teams preferably relating to computing services (VMware, Container platforms and technologies, Kubernetes, Docker, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience with design, implementation and operations of large-scale on-premise and cloud computing services or platforms
- Experience interacting with platform customers and translating their business requirements into actionable tasks
- Expertise leveraging data and tools facilitating quantitative decision making, measuring success towards KPIs & OKRs, effective presentation skills, and use of impactful reporting material
- Ability to clearly communicate, articulate concepts, and engage in interactive dialogue across all levels of the organization
- Passion and thrive working in a dynamic priority informed environment that emphasizes agile methodologies
- Willingness to engage and collaborate across all skill and experience levels as well as organizational boundaries to get stuff done.
- Affinity for using data driven processes in the identification and resolution of inefficiencies and problems

- Proven record of being a detail oriented, self-starter capable of delivering exceptional results
- BA/BS in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent practical experience
Differentiators:
- Previous experience as an individual contributor relating to hands-on experience creating, deploying, autoscaling and maintenance of Kubernetes clusters
- Kubernetes architecture design, or administration experience within on-premise or cloud environments
- Knowledge of networking & security concepts relating to Kubernetes on-premise and cloud environments
- Scrum Master experience
- Designing, supporting and maintaining solutions utilizing automated deployment and management methodologies
- VMware architecture, design, or administration experience
- Understanding of modern systems design, software development best practices and distributed systems architecture
- CI/CD or similar pipeline methodologies relating to automated deployment of computing services experience
